After School Family and Community Engagement Manager 

The After School Program invests in the identity, resilience, and agency of East End youth. We connect K–8th grade students with a network of trusted adults, local professionals, and peers for recreation, spiritual development, homework help, and skill building. Staff and Volunteers are essential in creating an atmosphere of hospitality, relationship, and opportunity. 

The After School Family and Community Engagement Manager is a supervisory position that is part of the After School Program leadership team. The incumbent will advance the After School mission and values by establishing and increasing mutual trust with families, community partners, and service providers. This role will focus on liaising between families and the After School Program staff, and creating sustainable methods for supporting families/students via community partners and service providers.The Family and Community Engagement Manager supervises program participants, and reports to the Program Director. 

Essential Duties 

  • Facilitates relationships with 25-50 families
  • Recruits families and students for enrollment by working with local schools and other potential populations 
  • Shepherds families through enrollment by working closely with the Program Director
  • Manages all family communication re: program changes, student progress and behavior
  • Communicates and reinforces student and family expectations 
  • Creates or utilizes existing tools for gathering family feedback and increasing family voice 
  • Develops and implements meaningful opportunities for family health and skill-building 
  • Cultivates long-term relationships with trusted and representative community partners 
  • Coordinates/attends family and community events (i.e. Cookouts, Open Houses, Block Parties)
  • Participates in YPQI, SAYO, and other professional and program development tools 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Comfort and confidence in redirection of students and de-escalation of behavior 
  • High fluency in trauma-informed and resilience-building youth development 
  • Proven history of mutuality with Black Families, Churches, and/or Community Groups

Qualifications: Any relevant COMBINATION of stated education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or training that demonstrates the ability to perform essential duties is acceptable

Required Qualifications 

  • Religious tolerance (Rise is a Christian Faith-based Organization) 
  • High School Diploma (Required)
  • 3-5 years of youth and family program experience with a trauma-informed approach, or relevant social work experience 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and command of the English language 
  • Strong project management skills with flexibility to manage multiple projects, adapt to change, and deliver on time (e.g., Yearly Christmas Bags)
  • Ability to establish and maintain mutual trust among the increasing number of students, families, volunteers, staff, and community partners 
  • Professional history of successfully prioritizing people and building sustainable systems 
  • Personal or professional history of cultivating and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with a variety of community partners and service providers
  • Willingness to cross-train in other Staff essential responsibilities to create an agile team environment 

Position Overview & Compensation 

  • Full-time 
  • Exempt from overtime 
  • Hiring range: $35,000 to $45,000 -  negotiable and commensurate with skills and qualifications

  • Primary work location: Rise After School’s Program Site (2010 Carlisle Avenue, 23231) 
  • Work Schedule:  11AM to 7PM,  occasional weekend work 
  • Remote work is available for relevant tasks (e.g., community meetings, student/family shopping, etc.) and/or by Director approval outside of core programming hours, which are currently Monday - Thursday, 2PM-6PM
